I just love this illustration of Spock for the May, 2009 (limited edition) issue of Esquire Magazine. It’s by famed illustrator Noma Bar. His work is really wonderful.

I can’t find a site for Noma, but you can see more of his work by doing a Google image search. He also has a book available at Amazon.

Woohoo! The Castro Theatre here in San Francisco is having a Star Trek Marathon, March 6th through the 8th (2009). They will be showing Star Trek 1-6, starring the original cast.

Of course I’ve seen all the movies, but it will be great to see them on the big screen, again. Here’s the show times currently listed from the site:

Something for Star Trek fans and cat lovers

The year is not starting out too well for Star Trek Alumni. Majel Barrett-Roddenberry died a few weeks ago, and Ricardo Montalbán passed away just yesterday. He was 88 years old.

Even though Ricardo stared in one of my other favorite childhood shows, Fantasy Island, I’ll always think of him as Khan Noonien Singh, the genetically engineered super-villian from Star Trek.

Rest in peace, Ricardo.

Ricardo Montalbán: 1920-2009

I just found out that Majel Barrett-Roddenberry died a few weeks ago due to complications from leukemia. That’s so sad.

If you’re unfamiliar with who she is, you’re obviously not a Trekkie. In addition to being the wife of Star Trek creator, Gene Roddenberry, she also played 4 roles on the various Star Trek TV shows… “Number One” from the Pilot episode, Nurse Christine Chapel from the original series, Lwaxana Troi from TNG and DS9, and the voice of the Enterprise computer on all the shows (and movies).

Although she’s gone, we will be hearing her on one more Star Trek. She recently finished laying down the audio track for the new Star Trek movie due out in May, 2009.

The new Star Trek movie will be in theaters in May, 2009. They recently released a second trailer, and it rocks! I can’t wait! Please, please… don’t let it suck!
