On our recent vacation, I had my very first White Castle burger. We were able to stop at a White Castle on our drive from Milwaukee to Chicago. I had never been to White Castle because they didn’t have them in Arizona, where I grew up. When faced with the opportunity, I had to try one to find out what all the hub-bub was about. After trying a White Castle burger, or “slider” as they’re called, I can honestly say it was the most disgusting burger I’ve ever had. I don’t know what they are made of, but it’s definitely NOT beef. The meal comes with three little burgers, fries, and a drink. I barely got through my first burger when I had to call it quits. Why people like these little goo-balls is still a mystery.

We’re back. It’s been a nice vacation, but I’m glad to be home. I kind of feel like I need a vacation to recover from my vacation. We actually returned home late Friday night, but I didn’t do much over the weekend. I was trying to stretch the vacation to the last possible moment.
Overall it was a good trip. We spent most of our time in East Troy and Milwaukee, with the last three days in Chicago (above). We got to see most of anne marie’s family in Wisconsin, and my mom in Chicago.
We made it to Kopps, in Milwaukee, twice. They have the best frozen custard ever. If you’re unfamiliar with frozen custard, it’s like ice cream, but much more dense, and “silky”. Kopps also has just about the best burger I’ve ever had. If you find yourself in the Milwaukee area, I highly recommend going.
Chicago is a nice city. I’ve never really spent any time there. My previous trips were just lay-overs at midway. We mostly walked around town, or took the free trolly. We did make it out to the Aquarium, and an architectural boat tour of Lake Michigan and the Chicago River, that was pretty fun.

I’m still playing catch-up, but I have lots of pictures to post from our trip when I get time to go through them. The day before we left I bought an iPod Camera Connector. I’m so glad I did. I have a 1GB SD card, but I shot almost 3GB of movies and stills with my Canon SD300, and I didn’t bring my laptop to clear off the images. The camera connector worked great. I highly recommend it.

It’s been a crazy few weeks, but I finally wrapped up my most pressing projects, and now we’re off for a little vacation. Well, sort of… Anne Marie’s cousin is getting married in Wisconsin on Saturday. We’re going to the wedding, and turning it into a little vacation. We’ll be in East Troy, Wisconsin for for about a week, and then we go meet my mom in Chicago for a few days. It will be so nice to have a break. I am just beat!
So, if you’re a loyal odl reader, as if there was such a thing, you won’t need to stop by again until at least July 23rd or 24th. I won’t have any access where we’re going, or a computer for that matter. There won’t be any new posts until we get back. If you make any comments on the stories, as if…, they’ll be stuck in the moderation queue until I return.

We were both off on Monday, so we decided to take a little drive down to Big Sur. We followed the coast all the way down. There are some truly spectacular beaches on that drive.
On the way down we stumbled upon the Rocky Point Restaurant. It’s an awesome place. The have a large outdoor patio, and the view simply can’t be beat. They are located about 10 miles south of Carmel (on highway 1), and are open for lunch and dinner. There isn’t really much else around them, and the sign sneaks up on you fast, so you may drive right by it and have to turn around (we did).
If you’re down in that area, I highly recommend stopping in.

Saturday I took Emmitt out to Fort Funston. He really loves it there. He pretty much runs until he wears himself out… keeping the beach safe from birds. We were out there for a few hours. I think he hopes we’ll move there. I took some great shots that I’ll try to post later.

We are back. We went to Phoenix for the weekend for a mini vacation. It was really great to see my friends. I have been missing them lately. While we were there I got to go to some of my favorite places, including this bike ride to Los Dos Molinos. We ride from my friends house at 48th and Elliot to Los Dos on Central and Baseline. It was awesome, but I’m still feeling the effects.
I’ve been playing catch-up today, but I’ll try to post some more pictures later.

Last Sunday we went out to Fort Funston. We had actually intended on staying home and catching up on a few things, but it was such a beautiful day, that we decided to go out and play. We took Emmitt and he loved it. He chased birds all afternoon. The leash law is a bit undetermined out there, but there were definitely lots of dogs off leash. I think we’ll be going back there a lot since it’s so close. I think it took less than 1/2 hour from home (SOMA). We got home just in time to grab a bite to eat and go see matt and Judith and Holofernes.

It’s that time of year again. Next Saturday (2/26) is the 7th Annual Los Dos Molinos Hike. A group of us hike from our friends house, over South Mountain, to Los Dos Molinos… the best mexican food restaurant (& margaritas) in Phoenix. It takes about 5 hours to complete the hike. We arrive at Los Dos about 5:30pm and proceed to stuff our faces, and drink ourselves silly. Last year I made some shirts to commemorate the event, and I did that again this year. Although, I was a bit late this year… sorry everybody.
If you’re going on the hike, you can get this year’s shirts here…
While you’re at it, don’t forget to buy your official one digital life shirt too :)
