Depths of the Earth

Depths of the Earth

I just finished a new logo and website for Depths of the Earth. It just went live tonight. Their old site was in pretty rough shape, and they wanted to update thier look. The site design was wide open, but they had one important requirement for the logo. It had to maintain the overall identity established by the old logo. They basically wanted the same logo, but a more modern feel. Click here to view screen-shots of their OLD logo and site.

This has actually been a really fun project to work on. The owner of the compnay has been great to work with. She wanted material that was clean and simple, and was very open to my suggestions. She originally contacted me about doing a t-shirt design, but through that conversation it turned into a logo, website, business card, stationary, product sticker, printed promotional piece, and finally a t-shirt. I wish every project could go this well.

HeavyMail 1.0.4 adds Tiger Compatibility

HeavyMail Mac 1.0.4

If you come to this site very often you have probably seen some of my past posts about HeavyMail. They’re a client of mine. They’ve just released HeavyMail Mac 1.0.4. Among other things the new release adds OS X 10.4 Tiger compatibility.

REJUV Posters

Rejuv Posters

I recently finished three, 24×36 inch posters for REJUV. It was a last-minute, rush project. They were attending a trade show, and had nothing to fill a 10×20 booth. I did a brochure to go with them, but I think the posters came out better. Considering the time and budget, I think they came out pretty well. Click here for a larger view.

Outsourced my first job

I (paul burd design) outsourced a job for the first time today. I wasn’t sure I would ever reach this point. I have a fair amount on my plate right now, and I have a new job starting soon for a logo and website design. I decided to go ahead and outsource the logo design to get the ball rolling on this project, while I keep working on my other projects. I also did it because logo design isn’t really my favorite thing to do. I hope it works out OK. I’ve always been a little scared of outsourcing my work… I guess it’s the only way to grow.

paulburddesign.com updated

paul burd design

Last night my other site (paul burd design) got a small face-lift. Well, not so much a face-lift, as a Botox injection.

About a year and a half ago I needed an online portfolio, and I needed it fast. So, I threw together a site in a few hours. I never really liked it, but it served its purpose. I’ve been meaning to go back and redo it ever since.

I still don’t have the time to go through a proper re-design, but I couldn’t look at that site any longer. So I just went in and tweaked it a bit. It’s still very simple and basic, but at least it looks a little better than it did before.

Hopefully pretty soon I’ll be able to go back and do it right, and also add in the new projects I’ve done lately.

HeavyMail Mac 1.02

HeavyMail Mac

The Mac version of HeavyMail has been updated to 1.02. The new release fixes a few bugs, and is worth downloading. If you are new to HeavyMail, it can be downloaded from heavymail.com. If you have a version installed already, you can simply select “check for updates” from the “tools” pull-down menu.

If you’ve never heard of HeavyMail, it’s an easy to use, and fully secure piece of software for emailing large files and folders. It really is awesome. For the time being it’s free, but I hear that may change soon. So go get it while you still can. FYI… they make a Windows version too.

You can learn more about HeavyMail from my past postings.

bonpoo?

bonpoo: free online file transfer

So I’ve mentioned here that I’ve been doing some ongoing work for HeavyMail. They are starting a new online version of their service, that doesn’t use any software on the users machine. The file transfers are done entirely through a browser. The new service is called bonpoo.

I did a quick logo design (above) and simple page layout for the site.

What’s a bonpoo you ask? Go to the site (www.bonpoo.com) and find out. There is a link at the bottom of their page with an explination.

HeavyMail Mac

HeavyMail Mac

For a while now I’ve been doing some little jobs here and there for HeavyMail. We just finished the Mac version of the HeavyMail client software. HeavyMail is basically an app for transferring large files and folders over the internet. An experienced user could just use ftp (if they had a server), but it’s an awesome app for the beginner. I plan to tell my clients about it. Most of them aren’t usually familiar with using ftp, and this will be a great way to transfer files back and forth. You should check it out.

I did the icon design for the application, and it was programmed by a Daniel Jalkut. He’s a great guy, if you need Mac software development, I highly recommend him. The icons could have been better, if they had hired a “real” icon designer to do them. It’s not really my thing… it’s hard to get things to look good at 32×32 pixels. Mac icon design truly is a specialized line. All-in-all I think it looks pretty good though, for v1 beta software.
