A group of Star Wars enthusiasts built this very cool 21-foot model of an X-Wing fighter, and equipped it with actual rockets. The plan was to launch it in a similar fashion as a traditional model rocket and recover it in one piece through the use of parachutes. You can read the whole story and see many more pictures and a video over at Gizmado, here and here.
Unfortunately, as this video shows, the launch didn’t go quite as planned. But, the first few seconds still looked pretty cool.

I don’t watch the show, Nip/Tuck, but lately I’ve been seeing a lot of commercials for the new season featuring a cover of Chris Isaak’s classic song, Wicked Game. It sounded really great so I went looking for it on iTunes. I’ve come to realize that Wicked Game must be one of the worlds most covered songs, as there is about 75 different versions of it available through iTunes. Luckily, I was able to find the version I was looking for. It’s by a duo named, Giant Drag. It’s worth checking out if you’re a fan of the song.
You may also want to just search iTunes for, “Wicked Game”. Some of the other versions are really good too.

Believe it or not, this is actually a real place. It’s an office complex in Alwernia, Poland, 36 km west of Kraków. It houses Poland’s largest radio station, RMF FM. I think it’s cool looking.
Go here to view more pictures, including some interior shots.

If you’ve ever had to do product mockups you know it can sometimes be a real bitch to find / create the right container image as the base for your design, not to mention the time it takes to mask-off the individual surfaces to apply your mock label.
That’s where LiveSurface can save the day. It’s a high-res, layered Photoshop image library, complete with masks, alpha channels, and embedded 3-D surfaces. The library includes product containers, common items, and scenes (signs, billboards, etc…).
The images aren’t free, but they are very reasonable. The box above will cost U.S. $29 for a high-res print file, or $14 for an image suitable for web or on-screen presentations.
If you go to the site and enter your email address, you can get this box image as a free sample. It comes with a demo movie giving a brief overview.

It doesn’t happen all that often, but from time to time I’ve had to make light rays for a design I’m working on. They aren’t terribly difficult to make manually, but Matt, of MacFanatic.net found these great Photoshop brushes that do it lickity-split. They’re called, “Rising Sun”, and they’re free. Thanks, Matt.
Oh, and if you’re curious about what kind of project that these may come in handy for, here’s a promotional card I did a couple years back.

I oh so want this Alien Abduction Lamp. Unfortunately, it’s not quite available yet, and Anne Marie would probably go nuts if I tried to bring it into our house. But, I can dream, right?

I’ve never heard of photographer, Spencer Tunick, but apparently he’s known for doing large scale nude photo shoots, in public spaces.
This Sunday (May 6th) will be one of the largest shoots yet… 6,000-9,000 people will be getting naked somewhere in Mexico City. It’s not to late if you would like to be a part of this, you can still sign up. Can’t make it Mexico City? He’ll be doing one in Amsterdam too. You have until May 25th to sign up for that one.
