Hey I never thought about the environmental problems.. Thanks for the link.
The better that I used is because of having it “fisically”, I’m usually not very careful with my burned DVDs, so “buying” only the data is like asking to accidentally erase it later.
And about buying it in itunes, why not buying it in demonoid/torrent?

Daniel, 'better' is a relative term. You do get higher quality with the DVDs, and you get any extras that are included. But, for me, I'm not that interested in the extras, and the quality of the downloads is adequate. I also don't want more stuff cluttering up my house. We live in a really small place, so I try to keep stuff to a minimum. Oh, and iTunes has the advantages of just buying the episodes you want. Don't forget, there's also the environmental concerns.

After some digging around on the internet, I found this comment about the iTunes versions on MacDailyNews. I can't verify it's accuracy.

"Unfortunately, City on the Edge of Forever is not the enhanced version. However, Balance of Terror, The Menagerie Pt 1 & 2, Arena, Space Seed, The Corbomite Maneuver are enhanced. Those are the ones I downloaded so far."

I’m not sure. I’ve only bought two episodes so far, #1 Where no man has gone before, and #26 Space Seed. The last time I saw these, it was over standard broadcast, on a crappy TV. The downloaded versions look really good, but I can’t say if they are the enhanced versions without a side-by-side comparison.

I will say that in the beginning of #26, Space Seed, the Enterprise comes up along side of the SS Botany Bay, and the Botany Bay is rotating towards the camera. I don’t remember this from seeing it on TV. I thought I remembered only seeing the ship from a profile view. I don’t know if this is an indication that they’ve gone back and added to this scene, or I just have a faulty memory. The scene I’m talking about is actually part of the preview, so have a look in iTunes and let me know what you think.

Oh, the only other clue I have is the files have ℗2006 CBS Corp. in the file summery. The ‘p’ in a circle symbol is like copyright, but for audio. That suggests that at least the audio was re-mastered last year. But I’m not sure how that works. I’m surprised they don’t have a Â©.

I’ve not bought any TOS episodes from the iTunes store, but my guess is that since the “enhanced” episodes haven’t even finished being broadcast that the store is selling the original cuts/DVD versions.

The original Star Trek series on iTunes are the digitally re-mastered versions, right? In the reviews, there seemed to be some contention as to whether this was so, based on the previews.
