iMac, or Mac Media Centre

Apple iMac

It’s not quite the iHome, Mac Media Centre that I predicted, but the new iMac, announced today, is pretty damn close. What makes it so close is the new remote control unit, and Front Row software that comes bundled with the iMac. They allow you to control music, photos, videos, and DVDs from the comfort of your favorite armchair. Put this baby in your entertainment center, and it’s a fully functional Media Center.

The new iMac also sports a slimmer design, integrated iSight camera, higher processor and video specs, Mighty Mouse, and a superdrive as standard equipment.

I personally think it’s only a matter of time before we see a headless version with DVR capabilities meant to attach to your TV.
