Big bloomers or freak plant

A friend gave us this little tree (thanks Chan). It’s only about 4 feet tall, but it has recently grown some really big flowers. I have no idea what kind of tree it is.

My Grandparents have several of these.
I’m not sure if this is the correct link, but rest assured, that tree is no freak.. lol
